Looking at The Alba from inside and out you wouldn’t guess that the innovative 15-storey vertical seniors living community started life as a 1970s office building.
Australian Unity recently celebrated the opening of The Alba, recognising contributions that helped transform the property.
Australian Unity’s Chief Executive Officer, Rohan Mead, noted that the construction effort was significant, with highlights including:
- 51,200 holes drilled for strengthening works
- 1,500 cubic metres of concrete used
- 860 windows and 960 pieces of joinery
- 48 pieces of artwork from contemporary Australian artists installed.
“The Alba Care Suites were designed as a residential aged care community in which high clinical standards are matched by a warm, personal touch so people still feel like they are living at home,” Rohan said.
According Ryan Banting, Executive General Manager of Social Infrastructure, one of the benefits of this design is that ageing couples with differing needs can stay together.
“The Alba’s assisted living apartments provide residents with the independence to live life on their own terms with access to varying levels of support—including domestic assistance, personal care and dining options,” he said.
With eye-catching views of the Melbourne city skyline and Albert Park, The Alba is redefining what’s possible when it comes to ageing well, with high quality finishes and amenities at your fingertips.
