The Alba is owned and operated by Australian Unity and has been purpose-built to offer easy living for older people who require support from day to day. This page answers the most frequently asked questions about easy living apartments at The Alba.

What is ‘easy living’?

Sometimes referred to as ‘assisted living’, Australian Unity has redefined this relatively new category of seniors’ living. At The Alba Apartments, you move into one of our easy living apartments which comes with a range of in-house services and support. There is also a range
of shared spaces to enjoy. Being supported every day frees you of the chores, cooking and home maintenance and allows you to live a full, happy and stress-free life with a focus on your mental and physical wellbeing. Easy
living at ‘The Alba Apartments offers privacy, dignity and peace of mind.

Is easy living right for me?

If you feel as though the responsibilities of living in the family home are causing you concern, moving to a premium easy living apartment at The Alba in South Melbourne is a great option. You’ll live in your own private new apartment, but we can take care of the cooking, cleaning, heavy laundry and maintenance, should you choose these options. Our goal is to provide you with the support you need to live confidently and effortlessly. You’ll be part of a welcoming community, where you’ll meet like-minded people of a similar age and have many opportunities to connect with others.

What are the benefits of an easy living apartment at The Alba?

You don’t have to worry about maintenance, chores or doing the cooking. Our Concierge is available to help you with the day to day things.* They can book an appointment, pay a bill, call a taxi or anything else that you might need assistance with. Living at The Alba you’ll have more time to do what’s important to you, such as spending more time with family and friends. As The Alba is part of Australian Unity’s Albert Park Lake Precinct, there is retirement living and residential aged care onsite, and easy access to nursing services when required. There is a purpose-built Healthy Ageing Studio and café onsite too.

Are there any entry fees?

To reserve your desired apartment, a $2000 fully refundable deposit is required. Upon signing of the contracts, a 5% deposit is paid – with the remainder paid upon settlement.

What will life be like at ‘The Alba Apartments?

The Alba has been designed to help make your life effortless and enjoyable. There are beautiful shared spaces to relax and enjoy activities in or spend time catching up with your friends, neighbours and your family. The innovative rooftop restaurant offers stylish dining for lunch and dinner, and you can enjoy a meal with family here, too. There is also a cinema, rooftop recreation deck with resident lounge, games room, pool table, library and multi-purpose rooms. There is a wellbeing studio incorporating a rehabilitation gym, hairdresser and beauty therapy and allied health consulting room.

What activities or entertainment will be offered?

You can take part in individually tailored programs that help keep you active and mentally stimulated. There are many opportunities to join in various social
groups, activities and events.

What is the role of the Precinct Services Manager?

The Precinct Services Manager is available five days per week and supports you to stay connected and engaged with our community. They organise and control the day-to-day operations and ensure the delivery of services – whether it is the support and dining options or the recreational
and social activities designed for the enjoyment of residents.

What features are included in my apartment?

A variety of premium one and two-bedroom apartments are available, all of which have been specifically designed to
be easy, safe and convenient for older people. There are no steps or narrow corridors and doorways, and each apartment is spacious and light-filled. All feature:

What are the colours and finishes in my apartment?

Your apartment has been tastefully designed with the following colour palette and quality finishes:

  • Walls and ceilings in Natural White
  • Kitchen flooring in timber look laminate in wood matt finish, in Casetino Beech colour
  • Kitchen benchtop and splashback in reconstituted, polished finish Caesarstone in Clamshell

Can I decorate my apartment the way I want?

Yes, of course, this is your home and your treasured items are what makes it uniquely yours. However, you will need to return it
to its original state when you leave.

Can I have visitors to stay overnight?

Yes, your apartment is your home, and your family is welcome to stay for short periods.

What support services will be available?

Our support services are tailored to suit your needs. You’ll have choice and flexibility to choose the amount and the type of support you want from our extensive list of services. Whether it be apartment cleaning, having your laundry or ironing done, welfare checks or maintenance requests, our team
is here to support you the way you want.

Are there any other services?

In addition to the support and dining options outlined in the services brochure, you will receive:

  • A quarterly review of your health, movement, care and support needs by the Precinct Care Manager
  • Morning and afternoon tea is provided
  • Access to classes and seminars in the Healthy Ageing Studio
  • Free bookings for functions

What meals are available?

When you move into The Alba Apartments, you have a choice of how many meals you would like us to cook for you each week, up to 14 meals per week. Our meal options include a breakfast box delivered to your room, and freshly prepared, two-course lunch and dinner options. You can enjoy these in the rooftop restaurant or have them delivered to your apartment for an additional fee. For more details on our our meal options, see our services brochure.

Can meals be delivered to my apartment?

Yes, you can have meals delivered to enjoy in the comfort of your own home for an additional fee. Even better, our restaurant offers delicious, freshly cooked meals served with wine every day. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the company of others over a shared meal.

Will there be staff on-site 24 hours a day?

Yes, someone will be available at all times.

What happens if I have a health incident?

All apartments are equipped with 24 hour emergency call buttons and pendants, along with staff who can assist you should you have a health incident or medical emergency.

Where will my mail be delivered?

The Concierge will collect and hold your mail until you are ready to collect it.

Are internet services available?

Yes, wifi is available throughout The Alba, including in your apartment. Costs are included as part of your monthly fees.

Will I feel safe and secure?

At all times. There is CCTV throughout the community and every apartment has its own secure, lockable front door along with 24 hour emergency call.

What happens if I, or my partner, need aged care?

We will endeavour to best accommodate both you and your partner. Every situation is different, so we will have an individual consultation to determine what is the best for you, your partner and both of your needs.
