Our fees explained

At Australian Unity, we understand the cost of care can be overwhelming. We are here to guide you every step of the way. You may need to pay some or all of the below fees.

Wellbeing Choice Program

Basic Daily Fee

Anyone entering aged care will be asked to pay. Covers your day-to-day living costs, including services such as meals, cleaning and some utilities. Calculated at 85% of the basic rate of the single aged pension, currently $65.55 per day.

Hotelling Contribution

Starting 1 November 2025, the Hotelling Contribution will be means tested for new residents. This is capped at $22.15 per day.

Non-Clinical Care Contribution

A means-tested fee, introduced from 1 November 2025. This contribution is for non-clinical care costs such as bathing and mobility assistance. The daily contribution will be calculated based on income and assets, up to the maximum daily rate of $105.30. It will only apply to residents who can afford both Hotelling Contribution and Non-Clinical Care Contribution.

Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)

A lump sum paid as you enter your residence or within six months of entry. A refundable remaining balance when you leave. From 1 November 2025, we will retain 2% of the RAD. The retention amount will be calculated daily and deducted monthly for a maximum of 5 years from the date the RAD was paid.

Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)

A daily fee paid at set periods (rental style) during your time in the residence. All DAPs are non-refundable. The DAP is calculated by multiplying the applicable Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (1st October 2025 7.61%) by the portion of your agreed RAD amount and dividing this by 365.

A combination of RAD and DAP

Pay a percentage of an agreed amount upfront as a RAD and then pay the rest over a set period as a DAP. Flexibility to choose your RAD to DAP ratio. The higher your RAD, the lower your DAP—the Maximum Permissible Interest Rate will be applied to the DAP unpaid amount.
Wellbeing Choice Program (Higher Everyday Living Fee)

Australian Unity’s Wellbeing Choice Program has been designed around the new higher everyday living services framework. Our Lumina Package provides enhanced daily living and lifestyle choices for every resident. It offers residents choice and control over every day living in our homes, with access to enhanced services that support comfort, wellbeing, and personal lifestyle choices.  

The Wellbeing Choice Program is an optional fee with the ability to select from the heavily discounted Lumina Package or choose one or more individual services to tailor a package around your own personal preferences.
 
Our Lumina Package is $49.50 per day (valued at $106 if products/services purchased separately) and contains:

Beer and wine with meals Two Café beverages A variety of breakfast options (including hot breakfast) All day dining Choice of two main meals at lunch and dinner plus dessert at dinner Use of rooftop BBQ area A variety of non-alcoholic drink options (excluding non-alcoholic wine)

The actual amount of the fees and charges payable will depend on the time you enter care, the information you provide to the relevant Australian Government Departments and your personal and financial circumstances. Australian Unity strongly recommends that you seek independent legal and financial advice regarding your particular circumstances prior to entering a residential aged care service. Pricing

You can choose to pay for accommodation in one of three ways:
• as a lump sum called a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)
• as a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) which is a non-refundable daily payment
• as a combination of both the RAD and DAP
